Why tint is sold by the number
People almost never search for tint by brand. They search for a number. This page explains what each number actually looks like on a car, which ones Texas allows on which windows, and which ones we keep in stock at our College Station shop.
Every tint percentage, side by side

Percentages refer to VLT, or visible light transmission. A lower number means darker film. Factory glass already carries some tint, so the finished result is darker than the film number alone.
What Texas actually allows
Texas sets the rules in Transportation Code section 547.613, and the part that catches most drivers out is the front doors.
- Front side windows: 25% VLT is the legal minimum. Nothing darker is legal up front.
- Windshield: non-reflective film above the AS-1 line only, which is roughly the top five inches. A clear film that does not reduce light is allowed across the whole windshield.
- Back side windows and rear glass: any darkness, as long as the vehicle has side mirrors on both sides.
- Reflectivity: capped at 25%. No mirrored or metallic finishes.
- Colors: red, amber and blue films are not allowed anywhere on the vehicle.
What we stock, and what we can order
We keep 5%, 15%, 25%, 50% and 70% on hand in both of our films, and every tint package and price is listed on our pricing page. Any other percentage can be ordered for your vehicle, so if you want 20% or 35% on the back glass, that is not a problem, it just takes a little lead time.
Both films we install are ceramic. Neither has dye or metal in it, which is the reason neither one turns purple and the reason neither interferes with anything electronic in the car. The difference between them, which we break down on our nano-ceramic versus standard ceramic page, is how much infrared heat they reject, not how dark they go, so darkness and heat rejection are two separate choices.
