Modern headlights are polycarbonate, not glass. That is why they yellow, haze and pit while the rest of the car still looks fine, and why a set of replacement housings on a newer vehicle can cost more than most people expect. Both ways of protecting them start before the damage, not after.
Paint protection film on headlights

Ceramic coating on headlights
Starts at $100. A coating bonded to the housing rather than a layer laid over it.
- Adds UV resistance, which is what causes the yellowing in the first place
- Sheds water and road grime, so they stay clearer between washes
- Does not add thickness or change the optics
- Costs less than film, and is the sensible choice on a car that is not taking highway debris daily
Which one you actually want
If the vehicle spends its life on Highway 6 and the interstate, film is the answer, because the damage there is impact. If the car mostly sees town driving and covered parking, the enemy is UV rather than gravel, and a coating handles that for less money.
Either way, the housings have to be clear before anything goes on them. Film and coating both lock in whatever is underneath, so if they have already started to haze, that gets corrected first. On badly pitted housings we will tell you honestly if correction is worth doing or if replacement is the better spend.
